Manchester United could sanction two dream signings for Ruben Amorim during the summer transfer window. Despite funds being limited, United spent £30million during January to sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce which saw the swashbuckling wing-back become Amorim’s first signing.. Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku was of interest to United with Alejandro Garnacho possibly heading the other way, but that deal never materialised. Marcus Rashford and Antony were, however, both allowed out on loan to Aston Villa and Real Betis, respectively.. Having not sanctioned a marquee sale last month, Amorim again made it clear what must happen for any further incomings to arrive. “It is simple. To do something, we need to sell players,” he said. “Our focus now is to win these games. Then we have time to focus on that.”. United are quite clearly in need of a top level striker with additions in midfield also required as Christian Eriksen and Casemiro are both expected to depart. Given their recent form, interested suitors for the majority of United’s squad could be limited, which may require the club to be smart in their strategy this summer.. With significant funds unlikely to be available, United will need to look at possible free agents, alongside players that could be available on the cheap, and there are actually a number of suitable opportunities on the market. Former midfielder Angel Gomes, now at Lille, is one player that sees his contract expire in the summer of 2025.. Many were reminded of the 24-year-old when he was called up to England’s senior squad by Lee Carsley back in November, and some impressive outings on the international stage saw links over a return to the Premier League emerge with United, West Ham and Tottenham said to be all interested.. Gomes has been asked specifically about returning to Old Trafford, with his answer certainly suggesting he is open to one, but hinted he is happy playing elsewhere. “There’ll always be that sentimental soft spot, so of course it’d be difficult to say no,” he told The Times previously.. “As amazing as that would be, after finding happiness abroad I know [playing in the Premier League] is not the be-all and end-all.” Injuries have impacted him in the last few months – and now a contract extension appears unlikely. Alongside Gomes, Lille could actually lose another key player ahead of the 2025/26 season.. In-demand Canada striker Jonathan David has been linked to several top clubs and is now in the final months of his contract in France. Spurs and Chelsea have been two Premier League sides to show an interest, with David open to playing his football in England.. “I’m open to anything,” he told The Athletic in October 2024. “I think, obviously, the Premier League is regarded as one of the best league in the world. But for me it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges.”. David has since provided some further clarity on his future, with a new club expected to take on his services in just a few months. “Yes, I will be free at the end of the season. And as for my future, I hope to grow, to become a better player and to play for the biggest clubs in the world, if I can,” he admitted to French outlet Onze Mondial.. “But first of all, I just want to have fun, never forget that football is fun. I started playing football because I had fun. And even though it has now become my job, you have to remember that I wake up every morning for football, for the pleasure of playing.. “I want to finish this season well – the end looks exciting and I want to play well and help the team. And when the season is over, the decision will be made and announced.”. Gomes and David are, seemingly, open to the prospect – but will United be tempted?.
