Ruben Amorim Man United “approach” backed as Paul Scholes questions transfers and squad

Ex-Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has said that the club “still feels like a mess” after Ruben Amorim’s settling-in period, with concerns about how new and existing players are being used amid poor results – but United fans in the Manchester Evening News comments section say that they trust the process, and ex-players should back the club to the hilt.. Speaking during a fan debate on Sky Bet’s The Overlap, Scholes said: “Look, I’m not at the point where I’m thinking it’s the wrong decision [to appoint Amorim] because he’s came into a mess and still feels like a mess, but the rest.”. “The league form, the way they’re playing now and you talk about cup competitions. As I said before, a big concern for me is that we’ve been crying out for a left wing-back. They buy one [Dorgu] and it tells me his [Amorim] head is a little bit fried and confused at the minute because he plays him at right wing-back and keeps Dalot on the left. What’s going on here?”. Scholes went on to say that he doesn’t see “a core of players” at the club, recommending a new goalkeeper, two centre-backs, two midfielders, and another two centre-forwards to be added to Manchester United’s shopping list in the near future. Amorim will be hoping to be backed by the Ineos ownership in the summer to reshape the squad in his image.. The criticism annoyed some United fans, who want Amorim to be given a fair amount of time to make his mark. Reader Tonyunited says: “Can’t believe so many United fans are already wanting Amorim out, he’s been in the job 5 minutes. He is working with mediocre players, give him the time, and the players that can actually play in the system he wants. For God’s sake, give him a fair chance.”. Commenter StephenTaylor123 writes: “Absolute rubbish from Scholes. Amorim has been quite methodical in his approach and knows what he wants. He’s come in mid-season, and wasn’t backed heavily in January bar Dorgu, so he is mostly having to use players that helped sack Erik ten Hag. We shouldn’t expect miracles, certainly this season, from Amorim.”. Rind321 agrees: “Some of these ex-players need to give it a rest. Amorim has been at the club for three and a half months. Thanks to Ineos keeping Ten Hag on, giving him 200 million to spend then sacking him in October, Ruben has walked in to a total shambles.. “He has players that do not fit the system or style of football he wants to play. Ten Hag was given 600 million, if INEOS were somehow able to give Amorim half that and back him properly, he would get us challenging again. We have to stick with this manager, or would Scholes etc. prefer Southgate?”. Others said what Scholes didn’t, and questioned how much investment Amorim would need to get United firing again. User Colombo says: “Giving Amorim hundreds of millions to revamp the squad is going to take us back to square 1. He’s not up to it. Too inexperienced, stubborn, and inflexible with his system. Everybody can see it.”. Cantonalives disagreed with some of the recommendations: “As much as I love Scholes for his United career, I disagree re: needing 2 centre-backs and 2 central midfielders. Certainly strikers, and maybe 1 centre midfielder.”. Jimclark100 says that some investment might not meet Amorim’s needs: “I agree with Scholes… but he did not sign the right back Dorgu. It was a signing put there by the Man Utd management team. Plus the fact they did not or could not spend any more money on a centre forward or other new players.”. Have your say!
