Manchester United trio face suspension risk in FA Cup fixture vs Leicester City

Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo, and Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United need to be cautious when Leicester City comes to Old Trafford for the FA Cup fourth round match on Friday night. United secured their place in this round after defeating Arsenal in a penalty shootout during the previous round at the Emirates Stadium last month. The match ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes, but United won 5-3 in the penalty shootout. They showcased a remarkable defensive effort in the capital, especially after Diogo Dalot was sent off for a second yellow card in the 61st minute. Having been eliminated early in the FA Cup as one of the favorites, United aims to make a deep run in the competition this season, hoping to defend their title after defeating Manchester City 2-1 in the previous year’s final. However, if they move on to the fifth round by defeating Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team, Maguire, Mainoo, and Fernandes must be cautious as they each received a yellow card against the Gunners. According to FA Cup regulations, any player who obtains two yellow cards in the competition’s third round must serve a one-match suspension. The deadline for suspensions will only come after the quarter-finals. This means that Maguire, Mainoo, and Fernandes need to be cautious in their match against the Foxes to prevent receiving a suspension before a possible fifth-round game. Lisandro Martinez received a yellow card in the match against Arsenal, but he is anticipated to be out for an extended period due to a knee injury he picked up during the 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday. Dalot received two yellow cards, resulting in a red card against Arsenal, which led to a one-match suspension, causing him to miss the 3-1 victory against Southampton four days later. If he receives a warning for the match against Leicester, it would not result in a suspension for United’s fifth-round game, provided they advance.
