Meghan Markle and Billie Eilish have joined forces to bring hope to a teenager who lost everything in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
In a video shared on Tuesday, the Duchess of Sussex appeared relaxed in a sweatshirt embroidered with her children’s names, Lilibet and Archie, as she excitedly revealed that something she had been eagerly waiting for had finally arrived.
The 43-year-old explained that a few weeks ago, she and Prince Harry visited Altadena, a town devastated by the January wildfires. During their visit, they met a mother and her 15-year-old daughter, whose home had been completely destroyed.
As they walked through the wreckage, the young girl shared that she had been hoping to find a treasured Billie Eilish concert t-shirt, which had been left in the washing machine or dryer before the fire.
Realising the shirt was lost forever, Meghan took it upon herself to reach out to the What Was I Made For? singer, hoping to make things right. In the clip, she revealed her efforts paid off—Eilish responded in a big way, sending the teen a collection of signed merchandise.
“I thought of everybody that I knew and I made a voice note, and I was like, ‘Please can someone get this voice note to Billie Eilish? Here’s what I’m asking,'” Meghan explained.
Beaming with excitement, she panned the camera to reveal the haul of merchandise she had secured for the teen—including a signed lunchbox, t-shirts, and more.
“I don’t even know what this stuff means, but it’s signed for her!” The duchess laughed, admitting she felt “old” for not knowing whether the lunchbox was a key part of Eilish’s fandom.
As she expressed her gratitude to the Grammy-winning star, the royal also revealed that Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and his wife model Behati Prinsloo played a crucial role in making it happen.
“Huge thank you, Billie Eilish, this is going to mean so much to her, and honestly, to Adam Levine and Behati, you guys helped me get this over the line,” she shared.
“And to everyone who is showing up for people in big and small ways to get through what’s happened in California, just thank you so much.”
Ending the video on a heartwarming note, she flashed a big smile before signing off: “I’m going to go and email her mom now, just wanted to share with you guys.”
In the caption of her video, Markle shared a heartfelt message to her followers.
“Let’s keep supporting those affected by the California wildfires,” she wrote. “Thanks to everyone who made this possible but most importantly, thank you to our first responders who are the community’s real heroes.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped in to support the fire-ravaged community of Altadena, making an unannounced visit on Friday, January 10. The couple rolled up their sleeves to volunteer alongside Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, offering aid to those affected by the devastating Eaton Fire.
Locals, still reeling from the disaster, spotted the pair as they lent a helping hand. The fire, which ignited on January 7, claimed at least 17 lives, destroyed over 9,000 buildings, and burned for a harrowing 24 days before finally being contained on January 31.
At the same time, the Palisades Fire raged through the region, scorching 23,448 acres, killing 12 people, and leveling nearly 7,000 structures.
