Marcus Rashford, currently on loan from Manchester United, might face a reduction in his £1.5 million annual sponsorship deal with Nike following his decision to join Aston Villa on loan. Rashford became sidelined in the United lineup after being benched by Ruben Amorim for the Manchester derby. Several days later, the England international expressed his wish to pursue a new challenge, and after that point, he did not play another minute for the Reds. According to MEN Sport, Barcelona was his preferred choice during the January transfer window, but the financial aspects of the transfer didn’t align, leading the Catalan club to opt for signing the winger permanently in the summer instead. As opportunities dwindle for Rashford this winter, a loan agreement to transfer to Villa has been established, which includes an option to make the move permanent after the season concludes. While many believe this transfer benefits Rashford by providing him with playing time, especially since Villa will pay 75 percent of his salary, it may negatively impact his valuable Nike sponsorship. The Daily Mail reports that Rashford has the potential to make up to £1.5 million annually, inclusive of bonuses, while playing for a top-tier team such as Manchester United. Nevertheless, since Aston Villa does not fall into that category, Nike has the right to decrease his sponsorship by a minimum of 50% if they choose to do so. The American sportswear company is thought to have the ability to lower his salary and even reclaim part of the signing bonus he received when he entered into his endorsement contract four years prior. While the minimum salary for a Nike sponsorship can be around £50,000, there are no indications that Rashford’s overall deal would be drastically diminished. Rashford may have his first appearance for Villa this Sunday as they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Try MUFC Pro for free now.
