The deadline day passed quietly for Manchester United, but the club has already secured their first significant transfer for the upcoming summer. If everything goes according to schedule, Jadon Sancho is set to make a permanent move from Old Trafford to Stamford Bridge next summer. The ex-Borussia Dortmund striker transferred to Chelsea last summer on a loan basis and will subsequently be signed for a fee that could reach £25 million, contingent upon a minor clause being fulfilled beforehand. The original deal included a mandatory purchase obligation. Nonetheless, that condition will only be triggered if Chelsea ends the Premier League season in 14th place or higher. At the moment, it seems very likely that they will achieve this. For the fourth-placed team to fall so far down the rankings by the end of this season, they would need to experience a considerable decline. Chelsea, after defeating fellow London club West Ham on Monday night, currently holds the fourth position with 43 points from 24 matches. They presently enjoy a 16-point advantage over Tottenham Hotspur, who are in 14th place. Regarding the choice to permit Sancho to depart last summer, the former sporting director Dan Ashworth explained, “We believed we had sufficient depth in that area to manage, having four excellent wide players, with Jadon being a fifth, which made our decision easier. If it benefited him and us, it was a possibility we were prepared to explore.”
