Juventus management director Cristiano Giuntoli has not dismissed the possibility of the Italian club signing Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee during this month’s transfer window. Zirkzee, who faced criticism after being substituted in the first half of United’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on Monday, has recently been rumored to make a return to Italy due to his limited impact at Old Trafford. The Dutch player joined United from Bologna in July for €42.5 million and has only scored four goals in 27 games. The response to head coach Ruben Amorim’s decision to take him off before halftime against Newcastle was unreasonably harsh. Many Manchester United fans, however, feel that Zirkzee is not suited to play for the team. Juventus has been rumored to be considering providing the 23-year-old with a way out of Old Trafford, and some Italian newspapers have suggested a loan transfer. He inked a five-year contract with M16 during the summer. Juventus director Giuntoli has not ruled out the possibility of the Serie A team pursuing him in the next few weeks, giving a somewhat evasive response when questioned about the ongoing rumors. According to Football Italia, Giuntoli remarked: “Zirkzee?” While I can’t name names, we are monitoring potential opportunities and will work to enhance our defense. Zirkzee played for Bologna for two seasons before joining United, netting 14 goals in 58 appearances. He has also previously been with the Italian team Parma, where he made four appearances on loan during the 2020/21 season.
