Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has, reportedly, undergone surgery to repair his torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).. Martinez, 27, is expected to be side-lined for the remainder of the season for Ruben Amorim’s side following the ACL injury he suffered during United’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace back on February 2. The injury was sustained in an innocuous clash with Palace winger Ismaila Sarr in the 82nd minute.. At the time, United confirmed that an assessment of the problem was ongoing, “to determine the appropriate course of treatment”. Martinez is since said to have undergone an operation on Tuesday for his problem, which reports from The Daily Mail indicate have been successful.. The report adds that recovery periods can vary greatly – spanning from six months to a year. It’s claimed that if Martinez’s recovery goes smoothly, he could possibly be fit for the start of next season which begins in August.. The first round of Premier League matches in 2025/2026 begins around the weekend starting Saturday, August 16. United are expected to start pre-season around June, although it is currently unclear whether he will be fit to take part in those preparations.. Head coach Amorim has recently highlighted Martinez’s importance, with the Argentine a regular part of United’s back-three under the former Sporting CP manager before his injury.. “Licha is really important for us, not just as a football player, but as a character, especially in this hard moment,” he said earlier this month. “Now, it’s time [for United] to help Licha.. “I think it’s a bad situation.
