Former Manchester United goalkeeper Jack Butland states that he is ‘dedicated to achieving a full recovery’ after being taken to the hospital due to an internal bleed on New Year’s Eve. The 31-year-old former England international, currently at Rangers, was expected to play in the Old Firm derby against Celtic on Thursday, but he has been sidelined. Butland stayed in the hospital overnight but was released on Wednesday morning. Although he has left the hospital, he will miss the match against Celtic at Ibrox, and it is unclear how long he will be out. Liam Kelly is now anticipated to step in for him, as Butland will be absent for only his second Scottish Premiership match this season. In a message shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Rangers announced: “Rangers confirms that goalkeeper Jack Butland will not play in tomorrow’s Old Firm match against Celtic. He experienced an internal bleed in his leg that needed hospital care, but he has been discharged and is on the mend. Everyone at Rangers hopes for Jack’s swift recovery.” Butland has now posted a message on his Instagram to inform fans about his condition. He stated, “I truly value the messages, but it’s essential that the information is accurate.” I experienced a major leg injury that required hospital care, but fortunately it’s now managed and I’m hoping for a complete recovery soon. Unfortunately, this has happened at a terrible time when I was completely focused on supporting the club. The priority at the moment is to support the guys and concentrate on getting fit quickly. “Let’s stay united and keep moving forward @rangersfc,” along with a fist pump emoji and a Great Britain flag. Butland, who came from the Birmingham City academy, was on loan at United for the latter half of the 2022/23 season.
