Sir Alex Ferguson’s Man United saviour has new job after brutal sacking as statement released

Mark Robins, a former defender for Manchester United, has been named the new manager of Stoke City. Robins has quickly returned to the sidelines following his contentious dismissal by Coventry City in November. He has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with the Potters and will oversee his first match on Saturday against fellow relegation rivals Plymouth Argyle. Stoke is currently in 18th place in the Championship after playing 24 matches, just four points above the relegation zone. They have already dismissed Steven Schumacher and Narcis Pelach this season. Robins, a native of Ashton-under-Lyne, played 48 games for United and is recognized for helping to secure Sir Alex Ferguson’s position in 1990 by scoring the decisive goal in an FA Cup match. He has established himself as a competent manager. Last year, he led Coventry to the FA Cup semi-finals, giving United a significant scare by coming back from a 3-0 deficit to tie 3-3 before ultimately losing in a penalty shootout. FIND OUT MORE: Manchester United has several clear players to sell in January, as well as some less obvious choices. In the previous season, he was unable to achieve promotion to the Premier League as the Sky Blues lost the Championship play-off final to Luton Town in a penalty shoot-out. He is now charged with revitalizing a Stoke team that has consistently underperformed since their relegation from the Premier League in 2018. “Given Mark’s established experience in this role, I think this is a truly exciting time for Stoke City,” said Stoke chair John Coates in a statement. The recent victory against Sunderland, marked by the team’s strong performance and connection with the fans, greatly uplifted everyone and showcased the potential that can be developed at our club. We all extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ryan Shawcross for his dedicated and motivating approach as caretaker manager.
