Reports indicate that Barcelona has faced new disappointment in their efforts to register Dani Olmo, with transfer links to Manchester City and Manchester United. On Tuesday, it was confirmed that the La Liga club has once again been unsuccessful in registering the Spain international. Fabrizio Romano reports that La Liga has turned down Barcelona’s appeal regarding their efforts to register Olmo and Pau Victor. Consequently, the club has requested new player licenses for the two from the Spanish FA (Rfef) as they navigate ongoing financial challenges. Olmo’s future has been uncertain for several months, with Premier League teams, including both Manchester clubs, being heavily linked to the Spanish star. A statement from Hansi Flick’s team noted: “Barcelona confirms that it has applied for a new license for players Daniel Olmo and Pau Victor with the Rfef. The club denies having sought or received any moratorium from any governing body for these registrations.” However, La Liga responded to the Catalan club, stating that they “have not presented any alternatives that comply with La Liga’s economic control regulations, which would permit them to register any player” as of January 2. As a result, Olmo and Victor may be considered free agents, but they could still be registered before the January transfer window closes if Barcelona fulfills the financial conditions. It has been reported that Rfef regulations state a player cannot be signed by the same team twice within a single season. The 26-year-old has a contract clause permitting him to leave unilaterally if the club fails to register him, but he shared an enigmatic Instagram post to ring in the new year, which apparently indicates he aims to increase his tally of five goals in the Spanish top division this season. His post elicited replies from teammates Lamine Yamal and Inigo Martinez, who remarked, “Olmo is a culer” and used clock emojis, respectively.
