Everton and former Manchester United full-back Ashley Young paid homage to Jose Mourinho as he shared his frustration about not winning a penalty in the thrilling draw at Goodison Park on Saturday lunchtime.. Having gone into a deserved 2-0 lead, Everton collapsed in the second half thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ sensational free-kick and Manuel Ugarte’s terrific strike from the edge of the box. However, the hard work put in by United to get back onto level terms looked to have been wasted when referee Andy Madley penalised Harry Maguire for a tug on Young in the area.. The referee was quickly referred to the monitor by VAR Matt Donohue who suggested that the decision should be overturned. After a considerable wait as Madley looked at all the angles from Stockley Park, he decided to reverse his call and play was restarted with a drop ball.. The final whistle at Goodison Park was greeted with boos and jeers from the home supporters as they vented their frustration at not being awarded a penalty. Young was quick to confront Madley on the pitch at full-time and appeared to repeatedly ask the referee: ‘Why,’ before leaving the field.. Taking to social media after the match, Young opted to quote Mourinho in his reaction to both the game and the controversial end. “A point’s a point, onwards and upwards,” he wrote.. Mourinho famously uttered those words after a Premier League clash while Chelsea manager where the Blues had lost 1-0 to Aston Villa. During that game, referee Chris Foy had sent off two Chelsea players putting Mourinho’s side at an obvious disadvantage..
