Harry Maguire sympathised with Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff following Boxing Day’s 2-0 defeat to Wolves at Molineux.. United, who had Bruno Fernandes sent off immediately after half-time, were condemned to a third straight defeat in all competitions via second half goals from Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan.. The defeat, coupled with results elsewhere, means United now find themselves 14th in the Premier League table – closer to the relegation zone points-wise than they are the coveted Champions League qualification places.. The clash with Wolves marked United’s eighth game of a hectic December schedule, meaning time on the training pitch at Carrington has been minimal ever since Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag last month. And Maguire believes that has contributed to their underwhelming form.. Maguire, speaking to MUTV, said: “I think it is really tough for the manager and his team coming in because it’s not like he has come in with a similar style to the old manager; they are the opposite of what they demand and what they want.. “It is probably tough for them because they know they want to work with the team on the training pitch and improve things, such as the defending principles and the set-play principles.. “It has been a tough month with games, but again, we do not want to use that as an excuse. This club demands winning and at the moment we are not.. “It is not good enough for ourselves, for the club and for the fans.”. United, not for the first time in recent weeks, were undone by a set-piece in the Black Country, with Cunha’s opener coming directly from a corner. It was the second time in three games that a corner taker’s delivery had flown straight into the net.. “I think when you’re in these moments you have got to stick with it and things will change,” Maguire added. “I think the thing is with set-plays at the moment is that we’re not conceding chance after chance from them; it’s one header and a goal.. “The boy’s header for Bournemouth at the weekend was unbelievable. I know from myself that it was one of the hardest headers you can do, and you couldn’t do it again if you tried.. “The thing is, we have got to look at ourselves, we have got to improve and obviously two direct from a corner is something that we will look at and try and improve. But we will look at ourselves because they are deciding games and set-plays are so important in football now with teams targeting them.”
