Despite both teams giving their all to secure a win, Liverpool managed to equalize with a penalty from Alexis Mac Allister in the second half, leading to a sense of frustration for City. The Argentine equalized the game after Stones scored the first goal in the first half, following a penalty conceded by City goalkeeper Ederson. Just three minutes into the second half, the Brazilian collided with Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, giving the home team a chance to tie the game. City had dominated the game and had more opportunities before halftime, taking the lead when Stones scored from a well-delivered corner by De Bruyne.
