Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has announced his intention to shift Diogo Dalot back to the right side of the team. The Portuguese player began the first match of Amorim’s tenure at left wing-back against Ipswich Town last Sunday, while Amad occupied the opposite wing-back position. Before Amorim took over and the team transitioned to a 3-4-3 formation, Dalot frequently played at left-back, filling in for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia when they were unavailable. Although he is versatile, he has found it difficult to influence games from that side of the field as effectively as he usually does from the right. He was left out of the starting lineup for the first time this season during United’s 3-2 victory over Bodo/Glimt on Thursday night, but came on as a substitute at halftime, taking the place of Malacia, who was starting for the first time since the final match of the 2022/23 Premier League season. Even though he contributed to United’s second consecutive Europa League win from the left flank, playing as a wing-back when they had possession and as a traditional left-back when they didn’t, Amorim has promised to find a way to move the defender back to his preferred position. “I believe he performs better on the right, and we will work to put him there,” the United head coach stated. “He is an excellent player with great strength who can play on both sides. These days, having a player who can fill multiple positions is ideal, as it allows for more flexibility.
