The Golden Globes proved a big night for Jessie Buckley, whose career is only on the up after her portrayal of Shakespeare’s wife Agnes in Hamnet. Based on the novel by Maggie O’Farrell, the emotional film saw Jessie take home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in the Motion Picture ‘Drama’ Category.
But while Jessie’s professional life is very much in the spotlight, her personal life remains far more private. So private, in fact, that it may come as a surprise to learn that the star is actually married and has a child!
Jessie recently revealed to Vogue that her husband, Freddie, prefers to remain away from the public eye and wouldn’t be making his ‘red carpet debut in their immediate future’ – although he has been ‘having a ball eating canapés’ at various Hamnet promotional events. Reports have suggested he was by Jessie’s side as she took home her 2026 Golden Globes win, but remained away from cameras.

Freddie is a mental health worker, with British Vogue recently noting that ‘anonymity is essential’ to his career. While he works in mental health now, it’s thought he previously worked as a producer on TV show’s including The X Factor, Game Of Talents UK, and a few episodes of the Gladiators reboot. In the past, he has been spotted at some events with Jessie – including The Oscars in 2022.

Giving a rare glimpse into her life with Freddie while on the Table Manners podcast in 2024, Jessie said, ‘He’s working in mental health, he’s gone back to university. He is gorgeous. We have a little flat in Dalston, though Norfolk is our heart home. We probably split 50/50 between them at the moment.’

When did Freddie and Jessie meet, and when did they marry?
Jessie first hinted at her relationship with Freddie back in March 2021, confirming she was no longer single during an interview with The Guardian. Referring to him as her ‘fella,’ she confirmed the pair had been dating for ‘a while.’ She later revealed that the pair had met on a blind date, set up by a mutual friend who worked in the music industry. Their first date included a stroll along Regent’s Canal in Hackney, East London.
The pair went on to marry sometime in Summer 2023 at their home in Norfolk, but chose to keep it secret. Speaking on the Table Manners podcast, she said, ‘One of my favourite memories of the day was I wanted a keg of Guinness, and I definitely wanted their cheese toasties at a certain hour.’

And it was such a gift to move through this woman and her motherhood, and her love and her loss before I became a mother myself. I think even getting pregnant and throughout my pregnancy, and how I was thinking about what kind of birth I wanted and how I would be autonomous in choosing that as much as I could was very empowering.’
Talking of her baby girl, Jessie added, ‘I think the thing I can hope to impart to her, and I’m sure she’s going to go on her whole own trajectory, and she should, is we have one life.’
Who else has Jessie Buckley dated?
The star split from fellow actor James Norton back in 2018. She told The Times, ‘We have broken up, yes. It was acrimonious, but it’s a tough job to have a relationship and he is a great man and we are great friends. That’s it. How diplomatic can I sound? If you are away for a year filming, you are just not physically around at points.’
