Adam Peaty and Holly Ramsay’s upcoming Christmas wedding, on paper, should have been a purely exciting event celebrating love, faith and family. But it looks like things have got all kinds of messy, as the influencer and swimmer are reported to have found themselves at the centre of a major family feud that’s threatening to overshadow their big day.

The couple began dating in 2023, having met on the set of Strictly Come Dancing two years previously, where Adam, 30, was competing and Holly, 25, was supporting her sister Tilly. They announced their engagement in September 2024 and have been teasing their wedding preparations online in the past few months, with the ceremony due to take place at Bath Abbey in December.

Sounds simple enough, right? Here’s when things get kind of complicated. Earlier this week, a shock report emerged in the Daily Mail claiming that Adam and Holly had banned his mum Caroline from attending their upcoming nuptials. According to the reports, things had gotten heated after Holly failed to invite future mother-in-law Caroline to her hen do at Soho Farmhouse.

Now, Holly can invite who she wants to her hen do. But you can understand why the choice was seen as pointed, seeing as her mum Tana, family friend Victoria Beckham, and even Adam’s sister Bethany made the cut. Rubbing salt in the wound even more was the fact that three-time Olympic gold medalist Adam invited celebrity chef Gordon, his future father-in-law, to his stag do. Caroline, instead, stayed at home looking after Adam’s five-year-old son George, who he shares with ex-girlfriend Eirianedd Munro.

Adam’s aunt Louise Williams, who is Caroline’s sister, was the first to hit out at Holly in a public Instagram post. ‘@hollyramsayy I’m so glad that you had a great hen do. As a bride, you deserve that. However, as a person you were divisive and hurtful towards a woman who I have loved and continue to love deeply,’ she wrote. ‘A woman who opened her home and heart to you. You decided, for whatever reason, not to invite her, your prospective mother-in-law to your hen night yet Adam invited his father-in-law, your dad, to his stag night.

Louise continued, ‘You invited your mum (quite rightly) and even your mum’s assistant, your sisters, your friends, my niece, but not my sister, your future mother-in-law. I have also seen messages passing between her and Adam about this and other matters and, quite frankly, I expected better of you and definitely of Adam. You have inflicted a hurt on my sister that will take a very long time to heal if ever.’

According to sources, the post upset Holly and Adam, with the athlete then contacting his mother to ban her from attending the wedding. In messages seen by the publication, he reportedly said that he planned to disown his family and that his Caroline would not be able to see his son or any future grandchildren in the future.

It’s been suggested that Adam had distanced himself from his family after getting caught up in family life at home with the Ramsays. One family member told The Sun that they had been sent a ‘save-the-date’ card for the wedding which had referenced staying in ‘all these country houses’. ‘I’m on Universal Credit – I can’t afford that,’ the source said. ‘Adam has been changed by money, fame and fortune. He seems to have forgotten where he came from.’

Caroline initially appeared to respond to being uninvited from the wedding earlier this week by writing on Instagram: ‘Crying is a way your eyes speak when your mouth can’t explain how broken your heart is.’ Days later, she reshared a quote that said ‘when you love someone, you protect them from the pain, you don’t become the cause of it’. That post was captioned with a thinly veiled dig at Adam: ‘The ones I love are the people who hurt me the most.’

Neither Holly or Adam has commented on the situation. In fact, influencer Holly – who has more than 400,000 followers on Instagram – has turned off comments on the social media site. According to a report by The Sun, Adam’s sister Bethany is the only member of Adam’s family who will be in attendance at the wedding.

Adam’s closeness to the Ramsay family is something he’s spoken about at length in the past. After the swimmer fractured his foot in May 2022, he found himself spiralling and struggling with depression and alcoholism, as well as separating from his long-time girlfriend. He took a break from competing in February 2023, but made a triumphant return to swimming at the Paris Olympics, when he took home a silver medal. At the time, Adam credited both the Ramsays and his newly rediscovered Christian faith with his emotional and sporting comeback.

In an interview with The Times, he gushed about the ‘incredible’ family, calling them ‘very supportive, very welcoming and very loving’. Having been raised Catholic, Adam joined an evangelical church in 2023 and described himself as a ‘religious man’. I’d rather have my faith and my relationship with Jesus and come second than have a gold,’ he said.
