Seven years since her last album, Lily Allen is reportedly set to make a musical comeback – with reports saying a breakup album is very much on the cards.

Following on from reports that Lily is set to release an LP this autumn, it’s now been claimed that the album will detail her marriage breakdown from Stranger Things actor David Harbour. The pop singer, 40, split from David, 50, in December 2024. The quirky couple had become pop culture favourites after tying the knot with a Las Vegas wedding in 2020, but they reportedly split in December 2024.

Claiming that the album was written in just 10 days and focuses a lot on her relationship with David, an insider told The Sun: ‘It will tell the story of Lily’s move to New York and also how she coped with the breakdown of her marriage to David.

‘There’s a real outpouring of emotions in it. She’s not had the easiest time and she’s ready to bare her soul.’

In March, Lily opened up about her breakup during a live recording of her Miss Me? podcast – which she recently revealed she would be taking a break from, leaving lifelong friend Miquita Oliver as the sole host. She said, ‘I am not over it. I am sort of running away. Maybe I will have a nervous breakdown.’

After moving out of the New York townhouse she shared with David, Lily has since revealed she’s relocated back to London with her two daughters, buying an ex-council flat in her hometown. Speaking on her podcast back in March, Lily shared, ‘This flat I’ve bought is in a social housing building. I have kind of given myself a “get out” clause because it’s slap bang in the area which I grew up in, so I don’t feel like I’m coming from outside and coming into the area and gentrifying it.

‘I have wanted to live in this building since I was a baby,’ she said, ‘It’s been a dream of mine forever and finally a flat became available in here and I was in a position to buy it and I did. But I know people have got judgement around it.’

Whether a breakup album or not, new music from the pop star is certainly in the works. It will be Lily’s first album in seven years, following on from 2018’s No Shame. The star released four albums between 2006 and 2018, having huge hits with sings including ‘Smile’ and ‘Not Fair.’

Lily confirmed the news earlier this year telling excited fans, ‘I’m doing a little bit of work on myself in this beginning period of the year, then I’m hopefully going to do some more writing, then I’m going to do my play – hopefully get an album out by the end of the year.’
