A “suspicious package” discovered at Utah State University ahead of a Turning Point USA (TPUSA) event was detonated by law enforcement officials.
On Tuesday (30 September), a device was found near the exterior of Old Main, a building on campus, and occupants were ordered to leave immediately.
The device was later deemed to be non-explosive, and officials carried out a controlled detonation. In video footage, an officer can be heard shouting “fire in the hole” three times before an explosion goes off. The university said all scheduled events could resume as normal.
It was the first TPUSA event in the state since the killing of its founder, Charlie Kirk, on 10 September at Utah Valley University.
