The Anti-Defamation League has deleted its Glossary of Extremism and Hate days after Elon Musk branded it a “hate group.”
Musk also claimed that the group, which describes itself as an organisation dedicated to “countering extremism,” was encouraging “murder” with its glossary.
Many of the tech CEO’s criticisms were rooted in ADL’s inclusion of Christian Identity in the glossary.
According to the ADL, Christian Identity is an ideology rooted in the idea that God only meant for white people to live in the Garden of Eden and that Jewish people were descended from the biblical serpent.
The ADL also listed Turning Point USA in its glossary, suggesting on its website that TPUSA has “a history of bigoted statements about the Black community, the LGBTQ community, and specifically transgender people.”
“Using such false and defamatory labels about people and organizations encourages murder,” Musk wrote on X
However, a statement released by the ADL said that it has decided to pull the glossary after it was being “misused.”
“At the same time, an increasing number of entries in the Glossary were outdated. We also saw a number of entries intentionally misrepresented and misused.
“Moreover, our experts have continued to develop more comprehensive resources and innovative ways to provide information about antisemitism, extremism and hate,” the statement read.
The ADL confirmed that it is exploring “new strategies” to fight “antisemitism and hate.”
The controversy came after TPUSA’s founder, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated on September 10 at Utah Valley University.
Kirk was known for his outspoken views, including the belief that requiring people to get vaccines was an example of “medical apartheid.”
He also claimed that abortion is “murder” and that it “should be legal to burn a rainbow or BLM flag in public.”
Since Kirk’s assassination, his wife, Erika, has assumed the role of CEO of Turning Point USA.
Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, is now awaiting trial in the case.
“Let me be clear, I will not put my finger on the scale of justice,” said Judge Tony Graf in an early hearing.
“Counsel, regardless of who is watching, whether it is the nation or a single individual, we must fulfill our roles with integrity, civility, and diligence,” he added.
President Trump has been particularly outspoken about Kirk’s death, proclaiming that the commentator could have been “president someday.”
He also described Kirk as “a martyr now for American freedom.”
The Independent has contacted the ADL and X-corp for comment.
