One person was shot, and two suspects are in custody Tuesday after a shooting at the Augusta Mall in Augusta, Georgia, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said.
“We are still on scene dealing with multiple issues at this time, and still searching for one individual,” the sheriff’s office said in an update around 2:45 p.m. “One person shot in total. Deputies are having to clear store by store to look for anybody that is still inside, hiding and or possibly having a medical emergency. This process will take a while, so we thank you for your patience and cooperation in advance.”
The mall is closed until further notice.
“Please avoid this area- for your safety and as you could interfere with the work of the deputies,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a previous Facebook post.
The sheriff’s office reportedly told WRDW that the incident was “more of a fight.”

The Independent has contacted the sheriff’s office for comment.
The Richmond Marshal’s Office is also on the scene.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 706-821-1080.
Tuesday’s shooting is the third at the mall in the past two years. On July 4, 2024, a person opened fire inside the Snipes store, which sells streetwear, sportswear, and sneakers. One man was injured in that incident, and the shooting appeared to stem from an altercation rather than being random.
Just a few months prior, on April 28, 2024, an incident at Dillard’s inside the mall also resulted in one injury.
