It’s official: Taylor Swift is in love. After decades of heartbreak detailed in lyrics, the star has finally found her happy ending with fiancé Travis Kelce. Travis and Taylor announced their engagement earlier this week, writing, ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married’ – a nod to the Swiftie fandom that adore them so much.
The news sent social media into overdrive, particularly given this is one relationship that notoriously private Taylor has shared with the world through Super Bowl PDAs and Eras Tour tributes.
Taking to X, one fan wrote, ‘I cannot believe Travis Kelce walked into Arrowhead Stadium on July 7, 2023, with a friendship bracelet and a dream of talking the elevator lady into letting him introduce himself to Taylor and now he is MARRYING HER.’
Another joked, ‘I’m excited about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce getting engaged as if they’re my own parents.’
Of course, the couple’s celeb friends were also quick to react to the happy news. While comments were disabled, the likes of Cara Delevingne and Sabrina Carpenter shared the post on their stories, with Kate Middleton and Prince William’s account liking the post. Even Donald Trump – who has been vocal about his dislike for ‘woke’ Taylor – said, ‘I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person.’

News of the couple first came after Travis tried (and failed) to shoot his shot at one of Taylor’s Eras Tour concerts. The athlete revealed on his New Heights podcast that he had prepared a bunch of Eras-tour friendship bracelets – including one with his phone number on it – that he’d intended to give to the star.

However, Travis didn’t quite make it backstage. Sharing that he was ‘a little butt hurt’ at not getting some one-on-one time with Taylor, Travis did the only thing an athlete could do: invite Taylor to see him shine on his own stage, NFL style. He shared, ‘I threw the ball in her court. I said, “I’ve seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead, you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead, and see which one’s a little more lit.” We’ll see what happens in the near future.’
Clearly, it worked. The podcast clip went viral – with Taylor recently comparing it to Travis ‘standing outside of my apartment, holding a boom box saying, “I want to go on a date with you.”
Recently appearing on New Heights, Taylor shared that her relationship with Travis was exactly the moment she had been ‘writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.’ Pass the tissues.
And for fans, Travis and Taylor – or Traylor, as they’ve been dubbed – are proof that fairytale endings really do exist.

According to Travis’ dad Ed Kelce, the NFL star got down on one knee around two weeks before announcing the news. There’s also been rumours that it happened the same day Taylor appeared on New Heights.
Revealing that the proposal happened in the city of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Ed shared, ‘Travis did the proposal maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago. He got her out there and they were about to go for dinner, and he said, “let’s go out and have a glass of wine.” They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful. They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.’
Revealing that he and Taylor’s dad Scott Swift encouraged him to take the plunge, Ed added, ‘He was going to do it, but wanted to find the perfect way to ask her and to make it special. We kept trying to tell him, “When you do it, that’s what makes it special. So don’t fret on where, just get it done.”‘
Describing his future daughter-in-law as a ‘wonderful young lady,’ Ed said, ‘She’s very good for him, and they just compliment each other so well.’

Although Travis is nowhere near done with his career, many sports critics argue that he’s already secured his place in the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame pays tribute to ‘the talents and triumphs of pro football’s greatest legends,’ with between four and nine new inductees added every year.
