The programme run by the Springboard Charity opens doors to jobs through its annual Future Chef competition which has been running for 25 years and has helped 225,000 young people so far.

The grant is being used to expand the charity’s outreach to schools in London in the new term after the summer holidays.

“This means we can train up more aspiring chefs,” Springboard Charity’s chief executive Chris Gamm said.

“The competition fuels their passion for the culinary world, creating the next generation of talent for the hospitality industry.”

The charity was set up in 1991 to “future proof” recruitment by training unemployed young people for careers in catering.

It helps 5,000 a year into jobs in partnership with employers through links with schools and employment agencies.
