Greenwich Council has said it is looking to improve the appearance of The Eltham Centre and Eltham Library.

The library in Eltham High Street is grade II listed and dates back more than 100 years.

Works planned include replacing parts of the roof, repairing windows and doors, and installing new rooflights.

Planning documents say: “The proposed works…should be considered a necessity in avoiding further deterioration to a building with a historical context.”

The leisure centre in Archery Road is a modern addition that was built in 2007 and includes a swimming pool, fitness suite and sports halls.

It will also see works to its roof, new windows installed and rooflights replaced. The existing power equipment is also set to be renewed.

Greenwich Council’s planning consultants said: “The proposed works are directed to improve the overall appearance of The Eltham Centre.”

They add that the leisure centre may have to temporarily close while power equipment is replaced.

Two planning applications relating to the works have been lodged with the council, but no final decision has been made.
