Mr Hayward, 26, died on July 6, East London Coroner’s Court heard on Wednesday, July 16.

His family has called him “a beautiful soul with the kindest of hearts”.

“On the 6th of July 2025, Tyler Hayward was involved in an altercation with a male in Chingford Mount Road whereby he sustained two stab wounds to the chest,” said coroner’s officer Jean Smyth.

The London Ambulance Service and air ambulance were scrambled to the scene, but Mr Hayward was pronounced dead at 10.06pm.

An autopsy the following day gave his cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

“I’m satisfied on those facts that this death occurred in circumstances requiring an inquest,” said coroner Nadia Persaud.

“The inquest will be opened and adjourned for further investigations. In the circumstances of this case, those investigations are going to be primarily by the police. It is likely that the inquest will be suspended.”

Appearing via video link, Det Ch Insp Rebecca Woodsford told the coroner: “A suspect was identified very shortly after the incident and there was a large scale police operation – a manhunt.”

A 22-year-old man “was arrested at the port of Dover,” she said.

Peshman Ahmedi, of no fixed address, has since been charged with murder.

After an initial appearance at Willesden Magistrates’ Court, he appeared at the Old Bailey on Monday, July 14, and a plea hearing was set for September 29.

A provisional trial date has been set for April 27, 2026.

“The family are being supported by a family liaison officer,” Det Ch Insp Woodsford told Mrs Persaud.

“Our coroner’s officers will step back in those circumstances,” the coroner replied.

She requested an update from the police in October, after the plea hearing, so the court could look again at scheduling a final inquest.
