Extra buses will be added to a busy south London route starting this weekend.

TfL announced that from Saturday, July 5, more buses will run on route 166, which links Purley Tesco to Banstead Town Centre, on Saturdays and Sundays.

This decision was made to accommodate the expected rise in passengers visiting Mayfield Lavender Farm, which is now in full bloom.

These additional buses will continue to operate until Monday, August 25.

Route 166 passes close to the entrance of the lavender farm, with passengers advised to board or alight at the Oaks Park stops.

In addition to these temporary changes, there will be permanent timetable alterations for several routes starting from Saturday, July 12.

Route 23, a 24-hour service, will have its frequency increased to every 12 minutes during the day and evening throughout the week.

Route 39 will also have its frequency increased, with buses running every 7-8 minutes during peak times on weekdays, every 8 minutes during the day from Monday to Saturday, every 12 minutes during the day on Sundays, and every 15 minutes during the evening throughout the week.

Route 285, another 24-hour service, will see its frequency increased to every 12 minutes during the day and every 15 minutes during the evening all week.

Finally, route 493 will have buses every 12 minutes during the day from Monday to Saturday, and every 20 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.

These changes will help to improve the overall efficiency and reliability of the bus service.
