
Data from the Home Office recorded by regional police forces has revealed the number of burglaries that took place across the UK in residential and non-residential properties in 2024.
What the data says
In total, 7,848 burglaries were recorded across the south east London boroughs of Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich, Lewisham and Southwark.
Among the highest were the boroughs of Southwark with 2,389 and Lewisham with 1,798, followed by Greenwich with 1,469, Bromley with 1,394, Dartford and Gravesham with 888 and Bexley with 798.
According to data, a higher number of burglaries took place in residential homes last year, with between 66 and 75 per cent of them being residential.

A breakdown of each borough from highest to lowest:
Southwark
Last year, Southwark had the highest number of burglaries with 2,389 total burglaries, consisting of 1,580 residential burglaries and 809 non-residential burglaries.
These rates have slightly decreased from 2023 overall by 7 per cent, residential burglaries were also lower by 2 per cent and non-residential burglaries had decreased by 16 per cent.

Lewisham
Lewisham was the second-highest area in south east London for reported burglaries last year, with a total of 1,798, with 1,337 of them being residential and 461 recorded as non-residential.
However, these figures also show a decrease in burglary rates across Lewisham compared with the previous year, with the total number of burglaries down by 13 per cent compared with 2023.

Greenwich
In Greenwich a total of 1,469 burglary cases were recorded in 2024, with 1,025 of them being residential and 444 of them being non-residential.
These numbers were down from the previous year, with the total number of burglaries decreasing by 10 per cent compared with 2023.

BromleyÂÂ
A total of 1,394 burglaries were recorded in Bromley last year, with 1,015 of them being residential and 379 recorded as non-residential.
The total number of burglaries has decreased by 12 per cent compared with 2023, with the largest drop recorded in non-residential cases.

Dartford and Gravesham
In Dartford and Gravesham, a total of 898 burglaries were recorded in 2024, with the majority of them (641) being residential and 257 of them being non-residential.
However, this was the only area where the rate of burglaries has increased between 2023 and 2024 with the total number of burglaries recording rising by 8 per cent.

Bexley
Finally, Bexley was recorded to have the lowest number of burglary rates in south east London in 2024, with a total of 798 recorded cases, with 553 of them being residential and 245 being non-residential.
These rates have fallen compared with 2023, with the total number of burglaries recorded dropping by 13 per cent.
