Jadon Sancho and two ex-Manchester United players have expressed their support for Mason Greenwood following his decisive goal in Marseille’s 2-0 win against St Etienne. Greenwood has been performing well since his permanent transfer to France in the summer. He has scored ten goals and provided two assists in 14 Ligue 1 games, with Marseille trailing leaders Paris Saint-Germain by just five points. The 23-year-old has not played for United since January 2022 due to an arrest. In February 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm after key witnesses retracted their cooperation. The Old Trafford club conducted an internal review and stated that they believed Greenwood was not guilty of the charges against him. However, efforts to bring him back to the United squad last August were halted due to a negative reaction from fans, making it clear that his time at Old Trafford had come to an end. He subsequently went on a season-long loan to Getafe and made a permanent transfer to Marseille this year. Although his stint at Old Trafford ended two years ago, it seems the forward still maintains friendships with some players who played for United. To celebrate the victory on Instagram, Greenwood shared several photos from the match and captioned it: “1 goal, 3 points,” along with a checkmark emoji. Jadon Sancho and Teden Mengi responded with a fire emoji, while Shola Shoretire commented: “Normal!” In the meantime, Diogo Dalot expressed his approval of the post. After joining Marseille, Greenwood has been associated with clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona due to his improved performance.
