Man United ‘scout’ former Man City youngster as Chelsea transfer battle emerges

Manchester United is said to be interested in acquiring a player who just departed from Manchester City. According to various reports in recent weeks, United may have a very active transfer window in January. The transfer window begins on New Year’s Day, giving the Reds just over a month to enhance their squad for the remainder of the season. Ruben Amorim is the new head coach of United and celebrated his first win on Thursday night with a 3-2 victory against Body/Glimt in the Europa League. Less than a day later, the Reds are reportedly connected to a possible new acquisition for the January transfer window. The Athletic states that United is keeping an eye on Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap. The report states that the Reds are among multiple Premier League clubs considering a move to acquire Delap shortly after he transferred to Portman Road. United is said to be in contention with Chelsea for the acquisition of Delap, who has netted six goals in the Premier League this season. The forward was on loan at Hull City last season before permanently transferring to Ipswich after departing from City. As part of the deal for Delap’s transfer from the Etihad Stadium to Ipswich, a fee of £20 million was agreed upon by City for the striker. City added a buyback option along with a 20 percent sell-on fee in the agreement, allowing them to either profit from Delap’s future transfer or prevent other clubs from acquiring their former star. Delap isn’t the only forward rumored to be heading to United as the January transfer window approaches.
