Howard Webb, the head of The Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOL), has addressed the contentious video that supposedly includes Premier League referee David Coote. During the show Mic’d Up, where Webb assesses disputed refereeing calls, he stated that PGMOL is taking the issue very seriously. Both PGMOL and the Football Association have started independent investigations into the footage, which depicts a man making derogatory comments about Liverpool and manager Jurgen Klopp. As investigations continue, Coote has been suspended. The video shows a man derogatorily calling Liverpool “s***” and referring to Jurgen Klopp as a “German c***.” At one point, he holds up a phone displaying a photo that seems to show Klopp, James Milner, and a fourth official in masks. The recording’s content indicates it might have been made during a lockdown. In response, Webb commented: “We noticed a video circulating on social media that we consider very serious.” “We’ve launched a comprehensive investigation.” “One of our referees, David Coote, has been suspended right away while the investigation is ongoing.” I don’t have much more to add right now until we finish that investigation.
