Getafe chief drops hint on Mason Greenwood future amid Man United transfer decision

President of Getafe, Angel Torres, seems to have implied that Mason Greenwood may come back for next season, however, he emphasized that the final decision rests with Manchester United. Greenwood, who played on loan at Getafe last season, scored 10 goals and had six assists. According to MEN Sport, it was reported this week that the forward may be among the earliest to depart from Old Trafford during the upcoming summer transfer window. Juventus and Napoli have shown interest in signing him, along with Borussia Dortmund. There are also reports suggesting that Lazio is preparing to make an offer for the 22-year-old player. Greenwood’s contract with United expires in one year. Manchester United is exploring potential transfer targets in two different categories. Jonathan David, Alphonso Davies, and five other affordable players that Manchester United may consider signing. In February, Sir Jim Ratcliffe hinted at the possibility of Greenwood making a comeback to United, despite the club announcing in August that he would be moving on from Old Trafford. This decision was based on an internal investigation into serious charges against the player, which were dropped in February 2023. Greenwood has consistently refuted the accusations. United had originally planned to reintegrate him into the squad, but fan objections caused a change of plans, resulting in his loan move to Getafe in September. Getafe has always suggested their desire to negotiate a further deal for Greenwood, and the club president, Torres, has now openly expressed his transfer desires. He seems to have stated that the player plans to continue at the club. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, he mentioned having fifteen players in the squad, along with Greenwood, whom they are optimistic about keeping for another year. Despite numerous offers reported in the press, they will ultimately follow Manchester United’s decision. It appears that he will continue for one more year.
