Man United ‘serious’ about triggering £34m release clause as surprise centre-back option emerges

According to reports, Manchester United is getting ready to activate Joshua Zirkzee’s release clause at Bologna. The club is seeking to provide competition for Rasmus Hojlund in the upcoming season, and discussions with Zirkzee’s agents are currently in progress. The 23-year-old has previously been rumored to join the Premier League, with Everton offering him a contract in 2017. However, he ultimately signed with Bayern Munich after a move to Goodison Park fell through. Zirkzee admires Robert Levandowski and reportedly chose to join the Bundesliga over the Blues in order to follow in his footsteps. Ronaldo is already paving the way for a potential transfer to United for Ten Hag’s prominent role. United should disrupt Bayern Munich’s agreement to acquire a substitute for Casemiro by signing him instead. Zirkzee eventually transferred to Bologna in 2022 and due to his impressive performances, he is believed to be one of the three choices on United’s list of players to enhance their offensive options. The Telegraph has stated that Manchester United is getting ready to activate Zirkzee’s £34million release clause as they are looking to sign a striker. Despite having other options, there is significant interest in bringing the Dutch player to Old Trafford. Additionally, United is considering Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman as an alternative to Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton. Last week, the club’s initial offer of £35m was turned down by Everton, despite already reaching an agreement with the player for the transfer. According to Give Me Sport, Liverpool is looking to only invest up to £45m in a defender to replace Raphael Varane. United may become more invested in discussions if they are unable to secure their top defensive choices after having a bid rejected for Branthwaite. They will also compete with Tottenham and West Ham for Kilman.
