Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham is adamant that Erik ten Hag will be sacked by Sir Jim Ratcliffe before the start of next season, even if they win the FA Cup.. Ten Hag is under increasing pressure at Old Trafford after a difficult second season. The Reds crashed out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup early and are holding onto Europa League qualification hopes by their fingernails.. Speaking to Genting Casino, he explained: “I think Erik ten Hag will be very fortunate to keep his job this summer. You can’t have those sorts of results and keep going in the job.. “I know that they’re in an FA Cup Final, I would love to see Manchester United beat Manchester City, but it would take a terrible performance from City and a brilliant one from Man United for that to happen.. “For a club the size of Manchester United to be such a massive underdog in a final is unheard of. It just highlights the size of the gulf between the two clubs at the moment.”. Reflecting further on the campaign, Sheringham insisted that it was not merely the manager who has failed to impress.. “Rather than singling out a player, I’m going to go as a whole. The biggest disappointment for me this year has been Man United. End of story,” he concluded.. “It’s been so powder puff. It’s just not right to see Manchester United going through the motions in the way that they have this season.. “They’ve gone from decent to average to poor, and that’s not good enough for a club the size of Manchester United. They are floating around in mediocrity.. “You have to produce nine or ten out of ten performances when you play for Manchester United because everybody wants to beat you. If you’re not at the level, you get pushed by the wayside and that is exactly where Man United are at the moment.”
