Kobbie Mainoo comments might have predicted Manchester United summer transfer decision

Very few players at Manchester United are safe from the chop this summer after a lacklustre campaign.. United embarrassed themselves in the Champions League and have stumbled in the Premier League. Somehow, the Reds remain in the hunt for European qualification but must rely on Tottenham Hotspur slipping up and England being awarded an extra Champions League spot at the end of the season.. Playing in the Champions League would undoubtedly improve the appeal of United as will the fact that one of the game’s brightest up-and-coming stars is in the ranks. Kobbie Mainoo has been impressive since becoming a first-team regular at the end of last year and deservedly earned himself his first international call-up during the final break of the season.. Not only was he part of the squad, but Mainoo also managed to earn his first start for the England senior team on Tuesday night during the 2-2 draw with Belgium. The teenager was integral in the move that saw the Three Lions earn a penalty and, subject to injury, is a favourite to make it on the plane to Euro 2024 this summer.. If it was not clear before this past week, it is abundantly clear now that United must start to build their team around the likes of Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund. This means bearing them in mind when making big transfer decisions.. One of those big decisions revolves around Casemiro’s future. It is no secret that Sir Jim Ratcliffe was not a fan of the Brazilian’s transfer.. This was not necessarily because he does not rate him as a player, but more due to the amount of money the club paid for him considering his lack of resale value. However, Erik ten Hag’s recent comments about Case could prompt a change of heart.. Speaking in a press conference after the midfielder returned from injury, Ten Hag said: “For Kobbie Mainoo, he can learn a lot from it and that togetherness, that bond… also Kobbie is very coachable and Casemiro has so much experience. Kobbie will learn a lot from it and that can even accelerate his development.. “So yeah, I’m happy to have him back and when they can play together I think they can take benefits from each other.” While this of course does not mean that Casemiro will be kept on indefinitely, it does hint at United potentially not pushing hard for the Brazilian’s exit at the end of the season.. The 32-year-old still has a lot to offer the football club both on and off the pitch to Mainoo which means a substantial bid would need to be submitted for the Reds to part company this summer, it would seem..
