Manchester United could sell their second-highest goalscorer in the summer – but there’s a catch

It is uncommon for a football team to sell their second-highest goal scorer after a season. Scoring goals is crucial in a sport that typically has low scoring games, but Manchester United is considering selling Scott McTominay despite his nine goals this season. The 27-year-old has been in the top goal-scoring form of his career and has nearly doubled his total from the previous two seasons. He has scored critical goals at key moments and Manchester United would have less points in the league without his impact. McTominay scored two goals against Brentford in October, equalized against Sheffield United in the same month, scored twice against Chelsea in December for a 2-1 victory, scored against Wolves, and also found the net against Aston Villa. Additionally, he discusses overcoming challenges and thriving while on loan. Berrada is expected to play a major role in any decision regarding a change in managers at United. If McTominay had not played in those games, another player would have likely taken over. However, without those goals, United would only have 36 points and be in 12th place, potentially leading to Erik ten Hag being fired. Although Ten Hag initially considered selling McTominay last summer and there was interest from West Ham, the player has worked hard to earn his place in the squad and has even played a key role in saving his manager’s job. Ten Hag has changed his tune from wanting to sell McTominay to being delighted to have him in the team, which is not surprising considering his contributions. McTominay has shown a positive attitude towards his club situation and evolving role in the squad, stating that he has never been one to give up easily. I had to step into the forward position a few times for the U21s because it was what the team needed. McTominay has scored crucial goals. I recall posting on Instagram a few times when I was content with keeping a clean sheet, which was my primary responsibility at that time.
