Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown believes this summer’s pre-season friendly against Scottish giants Rangers at Murrayfield Stadium will be an ‘exciting’ occasion.. United, on Wednesday, confirmed they will visit the Scottish capital for the second pre-season running, following their 1-0 win over Lyon last summer. Donny van de Beek scored the only goal of the game to secure a narrow win for Erik ten Hag’s side.. It has been announced the Reds will lock horns with Rangers on Saturday, July 20, kicking off at 4pm. As it stands, it will mark their first friendly of pre-season.. United have not faced Rangers in any capacity since 2010, last meeting in a Champions League group stage tie at Ibrox. The Scottish outfit, like the Reds, are one of the best-supported teams in Britain, meaning Brown thinks it has the potential to make for a brilliant afternoon.. Brown, who assisted with launching the fixture, told the Manchester Evening News: “I think it’s great we’re going back to Murrayfield, it was a great turnout last year. But this time, to be playing Rangers, it will see two of the top teams in Britain, who haven’t played each other for many years, [meet].. “It will be good for both sets of fans to come here and watch that. It will be two lots of passionate fans and two teams who are highly supported in Britain. I am pretty sure it will be an exciting game.”. When United visited Murrayfield in July last year, the clash with Lyon was staged in midweek, taking place on a Wednesday afternoon. The fact the tussle with Rangers will take place on a Saturday means the fixture should be even more special for fans.. “I think people can make the journey and it will be a little bit easier for them to get there [with it being at a weekend],” Brown continued. “It is a 4pm kick-off, so there will be plenty of time for people to have their day out and get here.. “Rangers and Celtic, in general, are the two best teams in Scotland over the generations and it is always good to have the best teams in England against the best teams in Scotland. There is always a comparison, so to obviously do this for a pre-season game will be good. It will bring many, many fans along the way.”. Wes Brown is looking forward to the clash between Manchester United and Rangers.. Brown faced Rangers once during his United career, starting the goalless draw between the two clubs at Old Trafford in September 2010. However, it was the second group game between the two sides at Ibrox, which Brown was on the bench for, that he remembers most fondly.. Asked if he could remember the atmosphere that night, he added: “One hundred per cent. I think you remember the away game more, though I was a sub that day. The noise and the passion that comes with Rangers in general is top class, you have to say.. “I think we all understand it is Rangers and Celtic who are the two most supported teams in Scotland, but their fanbase and what comes with it is exciting and brilliant at the same time. We are going to expect a noisy crowd.”. On the fixture, United football director John Murtough added: “United vs Rangers is one of those must-see fixtures that any fan of football would want to watch. Bringing together two of the UK’s most highly decorated and respected teams, the match will not only provide entertaining and exciting football for our fans but also a strong and competitive opponent to kickstart the squad’s preparation for the season ahead.”. Brown was at Murrayfield alongside Rangers legend Lee McCulloch to launch the fixture..
