Angry Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp might have displayed new weakness in Man City title fight

It’s not too often Manchester City fans can celebrate a United win, but perhaps Sunday was a rare exception.. Before United’s FA Cup quarter-final with Liverpool kicked off, there were two contrasting schools of thought among City fans. Would a United win inflict a mental blow on Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp that could prove critical to the Premier League title race? Or would City prefer Liverpool to win and have extra games in their legs, even if it meant meeting Klopp’s side in the cup?. In the end, City shouldn’t be too disappointed with what happened on or off the pitch at Old Trafford. Liverpool showed significant frailties in the face of an inspired United performance. The Merseysiders were wasteful when they led 2-1 and looked hugely vulnerable on the counter-attack.. ALSO READ: Man City outline their plans for the international break. In a clip posted on X, an interviewer said to the Liverpool manager: “Normally, the intensity is the name of your game, how did it become so difficult in extra-time?”. “How can you ask such a dumb question?,” came Klopp’s angry rebuttal. “When you see us that often, you could never see us and say: ‘how can they have more resources?’. “We have played, I don’t know how many games, I don’t know how many games United exactly played – that’s sport. Really disappointed about that question but obviously you thought it was good.”. Klopp finished by saying: “Come on! You are obviously not in a great shape. I don’t have the nerves for this.”. It’s clear the interviewer did touch a nerve, and though it might only be an isolated incident, Klopp has been widely slammed for his reaction. The German and his Liverpool team will now have two weeks to stew on the United result having thrown away 2-1 and 3-2 leads to lose to their bitter rivals.. When they return, Liverpool will have to juggle Premier League and Europa League commitments, while City remain in three competitions. Yet the Blues can draw on the experience of having gone all the way in the league, the FA Cup and the Champions League last season, whereas perhaps the cracks are starting to show on Merseyside.. Pep Guardiola will not bad-mouth Klopp or play mind games in the media; the pair are on very good terms and have an enormous amount of respect for each other. But the business end of the season creates its own pressure, under which Klopp and Liverpool buckled on Sunday at Old Trafford.. There is further pressure to come in the title race and City will be confident they can handle it better than both Liverpool and Arsenal.
