Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp clarified that the return of Michael Edwards as Fenway Sports Group’s chief executive of football has not changed his decision to leave at the end of the season. Klopp acknowledged that he had a successful working relationship with Edwards during his time as the club’s sporting director, but there will be no last-minute change of heart. Edwards, who previously served as performance director at Anfield, is being brought back by FSG to help oversee the upcoming major changes at the club, including finding Klopp’s replacement and a new sporting director. The club is also reportedly considering Bournemouth’s Richard Hughes for the sporting director role. The summer transfer plans of Man City may have been altered. Klopp was asked if Edwards has talked to him about changing his decision, and Klopp replied that Edwards has not because he is intelligent and understands his role well. “That was an inappropriate topic of conversation.” Can you envision what would happen if I decided to change my mind at this moment? Can you? Certainement pas. It would be similar to when I made a promise to never join another club in England, and then the following year I signed with our rivals or a team in need of a coach. “I don’t make statements like this without careful consideration beforehand.
